Adamson and Bennett Recognized as Littauer’s Employees of the Year!
Gloversville...
Karen Adamson, RN, and Don Bennett, RRT, were recently recognized as the Employees of the Year for 2005. This award is given to individuals who display an attitude of professional demeanor that captures the ideals of Littauer by providing high quality health and wellness services to the community. Adamson has been employed by Littauer for 36 years and works in Maternity. Bennett has been employed at Littauer for 26 years and works in the Cardiopulmonary Rehab department.
Both Karen and Don were nominated for the work they do for Camp SuperStarrs, Littauer’s two-week day camp for physically challenged children. A co-worker wrote in their nomination letter, “Both of them went above and beyond their job description. These are children with severe asthma, cystic fibrosis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, spina bifida, seizures and other disorders. Both worked with these children all day long- watching them closely making sure they stay safe, teaching them, playing with them, walking with them, in addition to giving treatments, medication, and recording every detail in the ‘patient’ record; this can be exhausting. Karen greeted the parents and went over medication information for the day, while Don met with the children with respiratory issues, making sure they were not having ‘problems’.
During the overnights, they volunteer to stay with these children, sleep in tents, and make sure that the children don’t get sick during the night. If they have to go to the bathroom during the night, they take them. A walk to the bathroom is usually 2-3 minutes one-way. For a child with physical limitations, it can turn into a 10 minute walk.”
“Karen and Don emulate the criteria of this award. I am pleased to present this two people who hold the values of the Hospital and Nursing Home in such high regard”, states Laurence Kelly, Littauer’s President and CEO. “The work they do for Camp SuperStarrs contributes to the success of the program and the enjoyment by the children.”
“It is our pleasure to work at Camp SuperStarrs,” says Bennett. “It’s not work for us. We love spending time with the children. We are honored to be a part of an opportunity to give these children a summer camp experience like other children have.”
