Surprise JCAHO Survey Successful
Gloversville...
During an unannounced, random survey by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) on April 19, Nathan Littauer Hospital and Nursing Home was found in compliance with all JCAHO standards and had zero deficiencies in every area surveyed. The purpose of this survey is to evaluate the hospitals' compliance with nationally established Joint Commission standards.
These standards address Littauer's performance in key areas such as patient rights, patient treatment, and infection control, as well as the organization's ability and performance in providing safe, high quality care. Littauer underwent a one-day evaluation, which included interviews with employees and patients, review of records, policies and personnel files.
Richard Mills, the JCAHO surveyor, commended the hospital and the staff for providing excellent patient care and for demonstrating great teamwork.
The Joint Commission randomly selects five percent of hospitals in the country every year to conduct these surprise surveys. "To receive zero deficiencies on an unannounced survey demonstrates our on-going commitment to providing high quality health care and wellness services", states Laurence Kelly, Littauer's president and CEO. "It was clear to Mr. Mills that our staff work hard everyday on quality."
