HealthLink Littauer Celebrates 15 Years!

Johnstown…

As Nathan Littauer Hospital celebrates its 110th birthday this year, HealthLink Littauer is celebrating its 15th year as the community's health and wellness service. HealthLink has grown to serve over 100,000 attendees with over 3500 programs ranging from cholesterol screenings to yoga classes and childbirth preparation to smoking cessation.

Throughout the years many people have benefited from the variety of programs offered by HealthLink Littauer. Patty Pietrusza of Glenville was grateful for the cholesterol screening offered at Senator Farley's Healthy Heart Day. "I decided to stop at the HealthLink Littauer booth for a cholesterol screening since I rarely visit the doctor," states Pietrusza. "I was shocked at my cholesterol level. Sue Cridland discussed the results and advised me to see a doctor. Now, a year later, I follow a low fat diet, I exercise regularly, my cholesterol dropped 140 points and I lost 65 pounds. HealthLink Littauer helped me to focus on what was important and gave me the tools for a lifestyle change!"

Maurice Farhart of Gloversville is another believer in preventive medicine. "I've seen what happens to people who don't take care of themselves", states Farhart. "HealthLink Littauer offers a wide variety of resources at little or no cost. They offer a lot of different programs and classes but more importantly HealthLink Littauer offers education and motivation through prevention. Our community is very fortunate to have Sue Cridland and the HealthLink Littauer staff ."

"The Hospital needs to be commended for having the vision to put into action the concept of prevention", states Sue Cridland, Littauer's Director of Community Education. "They put words into action and it has benefited our community tremendously. HealthLink Littauer is one of the few community health and wellness centers of its kind in New York State!"

"Littauer's mission is to provide high quality health and wellness services and to improve the health of our communities", states Laurence E. Kelly, Littauer's President and CEO. "HealthLink is one of our departments that serves that function. It is a vital part of Littauer's commitment to the community."

HealthLink Littauer continues to grow and add more programs. "We are always open to suggestions", states Cridland. "If you would like to see a program that we don't currently offer, you can let us know by calling 736-1120, or stop by our location in the Johnstown Mall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Our objective is to serve the community and we can't do that without your input."
