Littauer Adds Breast MRI to Diagnostic Imaging Department
Gloversville…
Nathan Littauer Hospital and Nursing Home is now performing Breast MRI at its main campus location.
"The addition of Breast MRI at Nathan Littauer is a dramatic enhancement in Women’s Healthcare in our area," says Dr. Sunjay Verma, Littauer’s Medical Director of Radiology. "Having an imaging modality available that allows us as physicians to make better and earlier diagnosis significantly improves healthcare. Detecting potential malignancies early can help improve survivability for patients with diseases like breast cancer."
Breast MRI is a new medical imaging modality that allows physicians to further evaluate the health of the breast tissue when a mammogram does not provide enough information to make a proper diagnosis. Breast MRI is generally used to evaluate lesions that are suspicious for malignancy. Breast MRI may also be beneficial in diagnosing breast diseases in younger women that may have more dense breast tissue.
MRI and Breast MRI are currently performed every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Nathan Littauer currently performs all MRI exams on a Siemens Somatron 1.5 tesla high field strength MRI system. *** |
