The Nathan Littauer Foundation

In 1891, when Lucius N. Littauer and his mother, Harriet, donated the land and funds for a hospital, they had but two requests: first, that the Hospital be named for Nathan Littauer, Lucius' father; and second, that the community raise an additional $10,000 in support of the Hospital. Thus began the fund-raising tradition for our community hospital.

In 1982, the Nathan Littauer Foundation formalized the fund-raising activities for our unique and irreplaceable Hospital, Nursing Home and 8 outpatient centers. Contributions from individuals, businesses, foundations, grateful patients and their families have helped to keep Littauer's services, technologies, computerization and facilities current, allowing us to offer better and safer patient care.

Your gift, no matter the size, makes a difference. Please continue the tradition of support that Lucius Littauer first asked of our community over 118 years ago.

Why Give?
One reason is detailed by a young woman whose life was saved at Nathan Littauer Hospital. In 1993, 9-year-old Rebecca Ferry was involved in a near-fatal farming accident. In her own words:

"As you read my story, I hope you appreciate the irreplaceable resource we have in Nathan Littauer Hospital! Nathan Littauer Hospital served a valuable function that fateful day; Littauer was the lifesaving first stop in my complicated recovery. Today, I continue to choose Nathan Littauer Hospital for my care. Now, I happily return to the place that gave me a new lease on life, thankfully with only the minor cuts and scrapes that can happen when working on a farm.

Today, I am asking you to do two simple tasks. I am asking you to GIVE and to TALK. First and foremost, Nathan Littauer Hospital is embarking on its Annual Appeal. It is an appeal that will enable the hospital to purchase the vital tools our physicians, nurses and technicians need for their patients. From IV drips to cardiac monitors, we simply cannot do it without you. Giving is not easy during these economically challenging times. Yet, I know that this letter is landing in the hands of those who support Littauer's mission.

And finally, TELL your neighbors and friends about this valuable resource--Nathan Littauer Hospital. I am sure stories like mine are not alone. Nathan Littauer Hospital has touched many lives as it touched mine. The legacy of Nathan Littauer lives on: a legacy of hope for those who expect advanced, safe quality care."
