GLOVERSVILLE, NY – Nathan Littauer Hospital recently received program reaccreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). “The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates Nathan Littauer Hospital on meeting the high standards required to earn reaccreditation as a sleep disorders center,” said AASM President Dr. Raman Malhotra. “Nathan Littauer Hospital is an important resource to the local medical community and will provide academic and scientific value in addition to the highest quality care for patients suffering from sleep disorders.”
To receive and maintain accreditation for a five-year period, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. These standards address core areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance. Additionally, the sleep center’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.

In a multidisciplinary approach, the reaccreditation from the AASM is from the efforts of Nathan Littauer’s Otolaryngology providers: Bradley Paddock, MD, Amy Hall, FNP, Nathan Littauer’s Sleep Disorder Technician David Walrath, and Sleep Disorder Office Coordinator Gillian Paciolla.
“Accreditation by the AASM ensures that our policies are current with standards of care and it gives our community local access for evaluation and management of sleep disturbances such as: OSA, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome, insomnia, REM behavior disorders, obesity hypoventilation, etc.,” says Nathan Littauer’s Sleep Disorder Center Technician David Walrath. “Our lab offers in-lab sleep testing which records EEG, ECG, respiratory effort, limb movements and oxygen saturation level. We also offer home studies. That’s why we recommend a study with us.”
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine accredited a sleep disorder center for the first time in 1977. Today, there are more than 2,600 AASM-accredited sleep centers across the country – Nathan Littauer being one of those few. Nathan Littauer Hospital’s Sleep Disorder Center is located on the hospital’s main campus at 99 E. State Street, Gloversville, NY.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine is a professional medical society for clinicians, researchers, and other health care providers in the field of sleep medicine. As the national accrediting body for sleep disorders centers, the AASM improves sleep health and promotes high quality, patient-centered care through advocacy, education, strategic research, and practice standards.
