CHICAGO and Gloversville, NY, – This March, Nathan Littauer Hospital & Nursing Home and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics focuses attention on healthful eating through National Nutrition Month®. This year’s theme, ‘Celebrate a World of Flavors,’ embraces global cultures, cuisines, inclusivity, and highlights the expertise of registered dietitian nutritionists. “The theme, ‘Celebrate a World of Flavors’ gives every culture a place at the table,” said Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist Libby Mills, a national spokesperson for the academy in Philadelphia, PA. “Nutrition plays a vital role in the healing experience,” stated Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations at Littauer Cheryl McGrattan. She added, “Our nutrition team is also equally important to our employees as they sustain us while we work. We are so very proud of and grateful to our Nutrition Team. At Nathan Littauer, food truly is ‘Thy Medicine.’”

During National Nutrition Month®, Nathan Littauer encourages everyone to make informed food choices and develop sound eating and physical activity habits they can follow all year long. The hospital encourages seeking the advice of Registered Dietitians/Nutritionists (RDNs) – the food and nutrition experts who can help develop individualized eating and activity plans to meet people’s health goals.
March 8 is Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day, an annual celebration of the dedication of RDNs as the leading advocates for advancing the nutritional status of Americans and people around the world.
National Nutrition Month® started in 1973 as National Nutrition Week, and it became a month-long observance in 1980 in response to growing interest in nutrition.
The hospital’s month-long theme will Celebrate a World of Flavors, and showcase how flavors from cultures around the world are a tasty way to nourish ourselves and appreciate our diversity. We are all unique with different bodies, goals, backgrounds and tastes!

At Littauer, to celebrate National Registered Dietitian Day, and National Nutrition Month, Emily Shaver, MS, RD, CDN a Dietitian and Clinical Nutrition Manager announced a week highlighting: Asian-Indian Cuisine. The lunch special today was a Lentil & Okra Curry with Roti. The special was very well-received by Nathan Littauer employees.
