Coder – Health Information Management

JOB TITLE: Coder    |    DEPARTMENT: Health Information Management

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, assigns diagnostic, procedural, & E&M codes to patient medical record. Codes charts under the ICDCM, PCS and HCPCS Systems related to patient’s visit in order provide statistical, payment and DRG assignments. Abstracts required data into hospital abstracting system and assigns codes and charges based on documentation. Responsible for accurate charge capture and coding to support timely billing and hospital reimbursement. Coder must work in a self-directed, team environment, to keep revenue cycle performance current.

Minimum Education

  • Equivalent to an associate’s degree in medical information technology (with college level courses in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, ICDCM coding, and prospective payment) required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • College level course in Anatomy & Physiology required.
  • Evidence of successful complete of basic coding coursework (i.e. AHIMA, AAPC, college, etc.)

Minimum Work Experience

  • 6 months of experience preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health record preferred.
  • Eligible for designation as a CCS-P or CCS preferred.
  • Recent health information, ER or hospital financial background preferred.  

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate moderate knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of Medical Terminology.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS (LEVEL II)

  • 3+ years’ experience as a coder, assigning codes.
  • AAPC, CCS or CCS-P certification required.
  • Excellent oral and written communications.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of basic computer skills.

  • Strong Microsoft Windows desktop application and navigation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and assignments.
  • Ability to facilitate workflow and education activities independently.
  • Working knowledge of EHR systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.

STATUS: 40 hours    |  SHIFT: Hours varied

SCHEDULE: This position qualifies for a hybrid work schedule, once training is completed.

PAY RATE: Compensation is commensurate with educational background and relevant professional experience.

Coder I  $23.15 – $26.15  / HOUR
Coder II $24.38 – $27.38  / HOUR

Primary/Specialty Care Case Manager

The purpose of the Case Manager is to provide care management services for high-risk patients in the Primary/Specialty care population and work with behavioral health agencies outside the Nathan Littauer Hospital Primary/Specialty Care system to coordinate PCP services for the agency’s high-risk population.

EDUCATION: 

  • Possess a High School diploma or equivalent.  Graduate from an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program. 

PREFERRED: 

  • Possess an Associates’ Degree with a focus on Care Management or related discipline
  • Possess Improvement; Quality Improvement and Patient Centered Medical Home recognition is highly preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

  • Possess current NYS license for Licensed Practical Nurse.

EXPERIENCE: 

  • Possess prior Care Management experience.

SHIFT:  8:00 AM – 4:30 PM              STATUS: 40 HOURS

Special Care Unit (SCU) Registered Nurse (RN)

***There is a $20,000 sign on bonus for full time Night shift RN with three (3) years  of acute hospital experience***

Description:  Renders professional care diagnosing and treating human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case-finding, health teaching, health counseling and provisions of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being. 

Requires:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • AAS or diploma from an approved School of Nursing. 
  • Prefer Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing. 
  • Current NYS license for Registered Professional Nurse.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).  Certification to be obtained within six (6) months of hire or transfer. 
  • Prefer one (1) or more years experience in acute care nursing.  
  • American Heart Association Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Clinical Laboratory Technologist

Description:  Performs various chemical, microscopic, morphologic, immunologic, bacteriologic and other tests to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.  Organizes and assesses all work assignments to determine priorities, to segregate test groups and to analyze results.  Performs complex laboratory tests according to written protocol.  Analyzes and evaluates the reliability of test results for which they are responsible.  Exercises independent judgment in the conduct of the clinical laboratory with minimal supervision.

Requires:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • NYS CLT registration/licensure.
  • Bachelor’s degree in medical terminology or with a major in one of the biological or physical sciences.
  • One (1) year clinical laboratory experience. 

Status:  2:30 pm – 11:00pm (40 hours)

From:  $33.18 – $43.75 / hour.  

Licensed Practical Nurse II Infusion/Imaging

Licensed Practical Nurse II 

Description:  The Licensed Practical Nurse is a care provider who assumes responsibility and accountability for their patients within the limits of their education and the Nurse Practice Act, taking into account the individual patient’s special physical or age related needs. 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • NYS LPN licensure – current and active.
  • Basic life support (BLS) within six (6) months of hire. 
  • Completion of IV course & blood administration within three (3) months of hire.         

Status:  6:30am – 7:00pm (40 hours) Infusion/Imaging

From:  $21.87 to $26.41 per hour.
