Nursing Goals and Appreciation

At NLH it is the Philosophy that: Professional nursing practice reflects the value our community members and hospital employees place on the work of our nurses. Professional nurses have a personal identification and commitment to their chosen profession along with supporting our core values and outcome standards.

The goal of our Nursing Division is to facilitate positive patient outcomes through promotion of health and wellness of our patients. Our conceptual framework for such a commitment utilizes the principles and philosophies of Florence Nightingale, Patricia Benner, and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) synergy model. Benner’s concept of novice to expert along with nurse characteristics as stated in the synergy model build the foundation for evaluating and growing our nursing experiences. AACN’s synergy model guides our patient classification for acuity using patient characteristics. Nightingale’s philosophical referents for professional nursing are essential to our practice, professional development, and care of our patients.

Our nurses participate in many activities including:

  • Nurses Week
  • Hospital Week
  • Employee Appreciations Days
  • Nursing Education Week- Scheduled education during a scheduled shift 3 times per year, to promote professional development
  • Nursing Orientation- an Individualized 365 Day Committee to our New Hires
